7. TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF PA'S?

YES! You heard right! :)

Two types of PAs? That’s right! You probably know what a Production Assistant does, but there’s also a Producer’s Assistant. So, what’s the difference?

A Production Assistant (PA) is a versatile crew member who supports multiple departments—on set, in the office, or on location—handling a wide variety of tasks to keep the production running smoothly.

A Producer’s Assistant (PA or Assistant to the Producer) is a more specialized role, often requiring experience, focused on managing the personal, administrative, and logistical needs of a specific producer.

Last year, I began gaining experience as a producer assistant (Independent contractor) for the same producer who took a chance on me almost five years ago, back when I was his intern and I have learned so much like how to create a production binder, scouting locations for lodging, crediting crew members on IMDb, scheduling meetings, handling media footage, creating short-form executive videos and much more.

Did you know a set cannot run smoothly without PAs? They are essential to the flow of production. If a PA isn’t performing their duties effectively, it becomes immediately noticeable and can slow down the entire function of production. That’s why I can say with confidence that PAs are absolutely vital to making a film function properly—it’s not an exaggeration.
