3. FILMING STORIES OF JESUS CHRIST

Who would have thought that saying “Quiet please, thank you” would lead me to where I am today? That same season on The Book of Mormon Videos opened the door to working behind the scenes in production. On days when my actor wasn’t needed, I was invited to join the production department as a production assistant, an opportunity I accepted with gratitude and excitement. At the time, I had no real understanding of what a production assistant did, but through willingness, determination, and hard work, I quickly learned what was expected of me. Honestly, those qualities are essential to succeeding in any role—you have to want it and be committed to giving your best, regardless of what others may say or think.

The show continued for two more years, during which I remained actively involved in production. Being on set was exactly where I wanted to be. I focused on understanding schedules and actor needs, learning the roles and responsibilities of each department, mastering set etiquette, and gaining a clear understanding of the industry hierarchy and the responsibilities that come with it. Paying dues is a necessary part of this industry, and I was more than willing to put in the work.

When I first began, I often questioned whether I was meeting the expectations placed on me on set. To anyone who doubts their abilities or second-guesses their skills, remember this: no one would hire—or bring you back—if you weren’t capable of doing the job. It really is that simple.

I had the privilege of working on The Book of Mormon Videos through its conclusion. Just before the final unit began filming, I was offered the opportunity to work as an assistant in Scriptures Media for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this role, I had the honor of guiding and assisting visitors, media representatives, press, general authorities, and social media teams on set, ensuring that production ran smoothly without interruptions. Although my role on this project was different, it gave me a new perspective on the immense dedication and teamwork required to bring such a large-scale production to life—a moment I will always cherish.
